Summary

Continues the narrative of the plagues that God sends upon Egypt to compel Pharaoh to release the Israelites. This chapter details the second, third, and fourth plagues: frogs, lice, and flies.

Key Points

  • God commands Moses to tell Pharaoh to let the Israelites go, or He will plague Egypt with frogs (Exodus 8:1-2).

  • Aaron stretches out his hand over the waters of Egypt, and frogs come up and cover the land (Exodus 8:5-6).

  • Pharaoh's magicians replicate the plague of frogs, but Pharaoh still refuses to let the Israelites go (Exodus 8:7-8).

  • Pharaoh asks Moses to entreat the Lord to remove the frogs, and he will let the people go (Exodus 8:8-9).

  • Moses prays to the Lord, and the frogs die out of the houses, villages, and fields (Exodus 8:12-13).

  • Pharaoh hardens his heart again and does not let the people go (Exodus 8:15).

  • God instructs Moses to tell Aaron to strike the dust of the land, turning it into lice throughout Egypt (Exodus 8:16-17).

  • Pharaoh's magicians fail to replicate the plague of lice and acknowledge it as the finger of God, but Pharaoh's heart remains hardened (Exodus 8:18-19).

  • God sends swarms of flies upon Egypt, but spares the land of Goshen where the Israelites dwell (Exodus 8:21-23).

  • Pharaoh agrees to let the Israelites sacrifice to God within Egypt, but Moses insists they must go three days' journey into the wilderness (Exodus 8:25-27).

  • Pharaoh agrees to let them go but changes his mind once the flies are removed (Exodus 8:28-32)
